Speakeasy

Speakeasy is a poem about the great days of the 1920's in America.

Speakeasy

Find a city and make it all yours;
The sun don’t shine where rain pours.

The Twenties roared a playful tune,
Where a speakeasy came alive at noon.

Hemingway, Lawrence, to jolting jazz;
Prohibition made many people spaz.

Ticking time bombs covered with fluff,
The good times can never be enough.

Cycles of surplus from Joyce to Kafka;
Winnie the Pooh, from Maine to Nebraska.
