Part XVII:
Quiet ensued. A comfortable quiet. Lesley found that with Jiggle’s persuasion, she was able to catch her breath rather quickly. Standing up and walking towards the narrow catwalk that stretched all the way across the street into the darkness, Lesley instantly wished it had taken her longer to return to a normal state of breathing.
“Whatever you do,” Jiggle spoke matter of factly, “don’t look down. I know that is an easier thing said than done, but a quick glance down below is liable to send your equilibrium out of whack and cause you to tumble straight down to the street. It is about a 70 story drop from here!”
“You mentioned that I should be ready for a climb. You said nothing about a fear of heights! This reminds me of being a young girl atop the high dive in summer camp. All I could say to myself was, ‘It’s okay Lesley, you can do it. Be brave.’ After several minutes, I made myself unconscious by panicking so much. I passed out right up there, band my head on the corner of the board, and tumbled down into the water in the deep end. It was sheer chaos, or so I am told.”
