Part XVIII:
In a feat that would make Ponce de Leon proud, Harjen managed to not only find a source to help him cheat death, but also had the sternness of character to keep the secret to himself. Information is one of the most human of all concepts. It goes hand in hand with knowledge. Many would argue that the possession of certain information is, in fact, knowledge.
Knowledge, when in the wrong hands, can potentially do more harm than good. One must only look back in history at the absurd number of tyrants that have disrespected the most basic of human liberties for their own selfish gain. It is sickening to consider this to be part of nature’s master plan, as Nostradamus predicted.
The purpose of mankind on this amazing planet only seems to serve one purpose, which is the destruction of limited natural resources and the proliferation of pain and suffering. As we continue to seek new ways to live longer, the sheer volume of people grows exponentially. It was with this concern, that Harjen became acutely aware of how this healing mineral that had taken over his nucleic infrastructure could potentially fall into the wrong hands.
