Part VII:
Although it must have seemed that I was being pernicious, I had nothing but curiosity about her own involvement with Loose Tooth. It seemed that over the last several weeks, word was beginning to spread about the band. It is that which all creative people wish for their art, for it to be appreciated on its own merit. I struggled to focus on the words as they came across my lips, so as to control the tone produced as I asked, “What did you think of the show?”
Straight away, I could see on her face the same conundrum that I was sorting through myself, for it seems that witnessing the band live was a singular experience. “I am having an amazing time,” she spoke. “I am very impressed by the band, but their music is not quite what I had imagined it would be.”
How it was even possible to imagine a band’s music prior to listening to it, I will never understand, but clearly she had some basic concept of their sound. “I hear that a lot,” I said, as I began to feel increasingly comfortable in her presence. “There is something about their live sound that makes you feel like you are in the right place when you are listening to it, if that makes any sense.”
The look of consternation passed quickly across her face after I said this and she just sat there looking at me for several seconds, after which she turned back around to her friend and whispered something in her ear.
