Part XXIV:
There it was! A plain, silver flask, containing no inscriptions or specific markings, laying there. On top of the small flask was a piece of paper, folded in half, with his name handwritten on it, in all capital letters.
The letter read, “Todd, enjoy this drink on me. There is plenty more where it came from. I will explain more the next time we speak. You tell ANYBODY about this and you may just wake up in a pool of your own blood. Cheers!”
For obvious reasons, the letter was unsigned, but Todd knew it had come from Cliff. Unaware of what the receipt of this gift meant for his future, Todd laid down with his face on the pillow, clutching the flask in the palm of his home. There was too much bustle going on outside his open cell to try and steal a quick sip, so he resigned to just caressing the smooth metal. He read the last sentence of the note to himself over and over again in his mind. He had no intention of sharing with anybody at all how he came into possession of the flask, but he figured this may just have been a test.
Before Cliff would divulge the information he promised to share, he likely wanted to ensure that Todd didn’t have diarrhea of the mouth, Todd thought to himself. The final minutes of the day passed by slowly, with Todd being unable to focus on either reading or writing, two things that helped to occupy his mind lately.
