Before he had time to consider any further how the sentencing would go, Todd was being walked out into the courtroom. The crowd was considerably smaller than it had been the day before, but there were still a good number of people in attendance. Todd took his seat, while glancing longingly at Lydia, who was dressed in all black, as if she were attending a funeral. The normal procedure was followed, after which the judge began to address Todd and the court.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to determine the sentence for the man sitting to my right. The crime is an awful one, but the eyes of the law take an objective approach to punishment, feeling that time in jail will heal. Even though Todd has been found guilt of taking another’s life, the death penalty is not applicable in this case. Therefore, my decision has been quite easy to arrive at.”
Just as the last word had left his lips, the judge began to convulse. Saliva began spewing from his mouth at nose at a rapid pace. To the dismay of everyone in the court, the microphone was still picking up every last bit of sound coming from the judge. He was now wholly on the floor, curled up in the fetal position, shaking violently.
“Get his pills,” a woman came running out from the audience, addressing no one in particular. “He is an epileptic and he is having a seizure. Please, somebody get his pills!”
