Eyes were darting laser beams directly into his shoulder blades, complete with the effect of a burning sensation. The feeling was akin to the sensation he had felt in the middle of the previous evening. It was as if he had been doused in gasoline and set on fire.
“Don’t you look chipper this afternoon,” Cliff’s voice, sticky with irony, permeated the inner folds of Todd’s brain. “You look like you have been put through the wringer. Did you sleep at all last night?”
Todd, taken quite aback by the whole interaction, did not reply back with anything vocal, but rolled his eyes as if in disbelief how dangerous the man standing behind him actually was. He continued to go about filling his tray with the day’s slop, smiling politely at the people serving him from behind the linear station.
“What difference is it to you how I slept?” Todd finally spoke, as Cliff followed him back to the same table they had sat the other day. “After your callousness, I would think you were specifically trying to make my blood boil.”
“Calm down before you say something you may later regret,” Cliff spoke in a condescending manner. “What type of fool would I be if I blindly trusted you to hold your tongue?”
