If there were a moment that Todd could make the right choice and back out of this mission, it had already passed. Strange things often happen under the cover of night and the early hours of this day were ripe for a spectacle. With the full knowledge that what he was doing was wrong, Todd rose and walked out of the cell, following the guard along the row of cells. The eery quiet did little to quell the racing thoughts inside of his head.
“Just this way,” the man dressed as a prison guard spoke his first words to Todd. He didn’t recognize him as one of the regular guards, leading him to guess that maybe he wasn’t in fact a guard at all. “You know what you have to do now. Time is running out. Go now!”
The command left little for Todd to reply to, so he remained quiet. He headed down the long hallway, avoiding the inclination to look behind him. Each step echoed throughout the darkness. As the door to the hallways was closed and latched behind him, Todd knew there was only one way to go, forward. He lit up the flashlight, which shined a light blue hue across the darkness. His hands were beginning to sweat. He focused intently on the four mini explosives and held them tighter, hoping they didn’t accidentally detonate and shred him to pieces.
